deer hat / acorn trail

A few weeks ago I tried out a design using a familiar one and making a few changes.
This little deer hat was born.

I used Teagan White Birch Fabrics Acorn Trail in organic cotton and lined it with a green cotton. I would like to make some more but instead line with something warmer and white and maybe list a few in the new year.

Ideally, I wanted to photograph this taking my time and setting it up though that hasn't happened yet. This is sort of what has been holding up my blogging entries combined with some health issues and lack of time. Hope to remedy this and all else soon.

Hope you have a wonderful New Year! Looking forward to sharing more in 2016.

recent children items listed in my etsy store

Take a look at some recent hand knitted children's items in my store.
The beautiful green merino hat and scarf set would be lovely for a baby.
A poppy knit wool hat in a shade of red/orange that is stunning.
Two children hats in a mix of mohair wool, lace, trims, rosebuds and tinsel!
Hope you all are having a lovely holiday season.

Paper and Fabric Flower Crown

Eek! So sorry. I will promise to catch up soon. I will at least make a concerted effort to try!
It's just been a ridiculous long time since my last post and of course now I decide to write and I have to pick up the kids in 5 minutes.

Quick notes:

*I have a really cute DIY today up on the blog Painted Sidewalks- the adorable S models for me.
*I've been pretty decent lately in updating my Etsy shop so please take a look and remember I do custom projects.

millinery brooches

Five new millinery brooches. I'll have them with me this weekend. I had so much fun making them I may go back for more supplies. They are so fun and addicting to make. I want to keep them all for myself.

mini gale sweater/poncho

You may notice this looks just like that image over on my pinterest page.
That would be right. I liked it enough to knit is as soon as I could and in the same color.
It's knit with Cascade Yarn Eco + in  color Straw. 100% Peruvian Highland Wool.
I like the little details with this one. The way it drapes over the shoulders and that the armholes are created with a sewn on button (she chose vintage wood square ones from my stash), the rolled neck and the little garter ridges on one side. The pattern is called Mini Gale and is designed by Alicia Plummer.

grey wool beret

I must admit I'm tempted to keep it though she has one in red so.... for now I'm trying to part with it.
She's grown into this cardigan (Wee Cria by Ysolda Teague) that was originally too big when I knit it in 2014 and I'm just loving it. A beautifully designed knit pattern perfect in Madelinetosh.

vampire pop star and robin hood

This year the kids went as Robin Hood - M and a Vampire Pop Star- S.

The vampire costume was borrowed from a friends daughter. I had to use my creativity in the makeup and fang dept. only which came out okay and we added a black wig and microphone.

Matthew's Robin Hood came together in the last few days. For his, I used his wardrobe. I cut a black tee and made holes to lace with cotton yarn over a green long sleeve and brown corduroy's.
We bought women's boots used that looked like Robin Hood for $10 and a bow and arrow. The hat and cape were made with a green velvet upholstery weight remnant I had in my craft room. The hat was very easy and there are many tutorials online if you find yourself in need to make one. The cape was just a shape I made up out of a rectangle. The sides were hemmed (one on a slight angle) and a seam was made at the back of the neck to resemble a hood (non-functioning).

It was a lot of fun and a two day celebration.

paper and fabric flower crown

I made this lovely floral crown as part of my Frida Kahlo costume for Halloween. I went about it without having planned it out much but incorporating various elements, colors and shapes into the design. I used crepe paper, thick tissue paper, cotton fabric, wool felt balls and a few vintage and millinery flowers that I had around the house. It's hard to see all the flowers in this image. I attached them to a headband with hot glue and the flowers that were wired were wrapped around the headband.

A couple of the flowers are from tutorials but, mostly I just cut and designed them by folding and scrunching as I went along.

I also embroidered a realistic heart to wear on my shirt.

new york sheep and wool festival

Just a few photos of the sheep and wool festival last weekend as I got caught up in the moment and forgot to photograph as much as I wanted to. The last photo is the fiber I purchased. At least half of it is going to be knit up for items that I hope to sell. The pink with sequins was picked out by Scarlet - still debating what to knit with it for her- shawl, scarf, mittens.
