pom pom hat

Okay Marieke, I am ready to meet you in Paris for that cafe au lait...perhaps a croissant or a crepe as well. Let's cross the Seine and talk about art, fashion and knitting. Obviously, we will wear our hats so we can spot each other.

For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about please click here.

I love my hat and am really into this dark teal blue color. I decreased my own way though as I was a bit confused about the pattern instructions.

P.S. I've no idea what to do when I point the camera at myself which makes for very silly modeling. It's okay to laugh, really.

a lovely new shop

Yesterday, I went to a new vintage/antique store that just opened in town called Mackey Blue.

I am thrilled to have this new shop in town as I have seen many vintage stores close over the years I have been here and we were in sore need of one. The owner, Karen, is very nice and her prices are manageable.

Inside you will find treasures such as old typewriters, vintage books, costume jewelry, housewares etc. I could go on but, you should stop in and say hello and poke about yourself. We are also in discussion to carry some of my items.

I left with the following:

teacups

a wool (possibly blend) fabric bundle, a old camera and a typewriter tin to add to my metal tin collection

I'm off for a spot of tea now.

Until tomorrow...

sophia headboard & knitting in progress

A new headboard. It's Pottery Barn (cough cough) but it was on sale and with shipping and surcharges it came just under budget. I do love it although we had planned on a iron bed but ms. picky (me) was having trouble finding one that was perfect and for a queen bed and in budget.

Knitting works in progress:

Exhibit A - My longest WIP- a sweater for Blythe. It just needs to be sewn up. Perhaps I need a Blythe doll to inspire me to finish her darling sweater. My birthday is on Thursday...hint hint..

Take a look at this sweetie pie in her crocheted dress

I bought some button covering kits last time I was in the city. I love making them. It is fun, not challenging and perfect when you are tired but still feel like making something.
I will be making more. I think I will try to sell some as well.
These I made with a vintage floral courderoy fabric I bought many moons ago at a church rummage sale.

my first ever quilt

I've no idea what I'm doing. Let me just repeat that in case you didn't hear me, okay... I've no idea what I'm doing. All is fine really since this quilt is for me even though it is a crib quilt and I've no baby girl or baby girl on the way. Perhaps, someday. For now it is just an experiment.

I think this style quilt may be called a crazy quilt. That would be a good name for it because it is crazy. Crazy that I'm doing it. If I can attempt this you can too and I'm not just saying that. I'm not an expert seamstress or anything.

So here it is- well the quilt top at least:

It's a bit wonky as I should have ironed pre-sewing the quilt squares down because a few of them are a bit puckered. Will this get better once I add the batting and back or should I take out and re-do? Any advice?
The best part of sewing the squares is that I used the zig-zag stitch and so I didn't have to hem the raw edges.
The squares are all reproduction fabrics that I picked up on ebay quite a while ago. You may remember this post where I first talked about this idea.
I'm using a tea-stained color linen for the quilt that I thought would be off-white (that's what I ordered at least) but, I'm happy with the color so all is good that ends good. However, it's not over yet.
