sheep and wool festival

We attended the Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY yesterday. What a day!
The weather was gorgeous, the leaves were peaking and there was so much to see and do.
I say this every year but to get the full effect you probably really need to go both days. I say this and I was there for a full six hours.

My new yarn-

I paid visits to a few of my favorites and discovered some new ones. Have you ever heard of Qiviut? I had not and, oh my 100% qiviut is so incredible to touch. I will someday purchase some and make a scarf.
I got some tips on rug hooking and felting and enjoyed watched some weaving demonstrations. I waited on line again to purchase a skein of Cephalopod yarns. Really, I should have bought more for the amount of time I waited but, the color is so pretty it was worth it. It's that really pretty blue up there.
I got some beautiful new wool, a penny rug kit and a bolga basket. We met up with some family there which is always nice.

There is tons for kids to do which is really great so I can disappear on my own a bit and shop for a while knowing they are having fun. They watched sheep herding, dog frisbee, petted animals and a new favorite panning for rocks and minerals.

I can't wait for next year.

You Make My Day

I bought this photo a long time ago and I have it up on a wire picture holder with other items I love. I never get tired of it. I love the girl and her happy expression, her haircut, her dress, the way the sun shines through the branches of the tree and the beautiful doll she holds. Anyone know the name of this doll by any chance? It's so amazing and I would love to get one for my baby doll.

I received a You Make My Award from Elizabeth. Thanks so much!

Elizabeth was my scrap swap partner and was super good to me. She also has recently offered to send me one of her doll quilts that she made for the collection I am gathering for Scarlet. How sweet is that!

Honestly all of you who stop by here to read my journal make my day and although I don't get a chance to personally respond to all the comments I receive I do love reading them and I appreciate that you take the time to write them and cheer me on.

The idea with the 'You Make My Day' award is that I now pass this on to ten bloggers who I admire and who inspire me.
I am passing the award to Jenn, Laura,Ann, Fiona, Abby, the girls from the Purl Bee, Claire ,Jenny ,Sarah and Abigail

Props, Visual Displays & Tiny Worlds

Down to Earth's:

After viewing this section of a window at a store in town called Down to Earth, I decided to create my own installation piece based on my love of craft. I've actually been wanting to do this for a while.
I adore a good store window and setting up my own props and handmade items and creating little worlds.

Mine:

I also love making little scenes in shadow boxes which I've done a few of.
One day I'll get around to photographing them and showing you.

A few summers back, I worked as an assistant prop stylist but, it was more calling and running around the city a lot...buying clothes or beautiful produce, calling costume shops for random items etc. It was fun but, not as visual as I would have liked.

I would love to be able to design a window for Anthropologie one day or even get the opportunity to work on one of their photography shoots. They are so nicely done.

Well, this was a lot of fun for me to do. Hope you enjoy it.

Have a lovely Autumn weekend and
Happy Day of the Dead. A sugar skull sounds yummy, no?
