silvery gray bonnet

I just added this beautiful pale gray bonnet to the shop with a matching satin bow that weaves through eyelet around the base and ties at the chin. It is sized to fit a wee one about 6 months old. It's knit with Madelinetosh DK in the color Astrid Gray.

* I corrected this version. I originally thought the color was Gossamer which is very close but then I found the tag*

geranium dress #3

I discovered a new to me fabric shop nearby called Rock, Paper, Scissors last week and bought these two pieces of cotton with the geranium dress in mind as she is almost outgrowing the others. I fell in love with the Autumn colors and they pair so nicely together. I made a size 7 which is a bit big on her now but, I am hoping to layer it in future months and get extended wear for next year. This is the third geranium dress I've sewn so it's obvious I like this pattern. What makes it special are the custom options within the pattern. I used the faux cap sleeve this time rather then the flutter sleeve as I had done previously. You can also change the neckline, hem (make it a top), pockets or not and for the skirt, pleats or gathers. I love the look of these handmade vintage buttons with the dress.

pinafore

Pinafore/Apron top added to the shop last week. I've always loved making these.

The nostalgia of little ones wearing pinafores over pretty frocks goes hand in hand with the practicality of modern day uses as an apron, smock or summer top. I chose pink roses in Liberty fabric for that good old fashioned pretty look.

textured shawl recipe

Orlane's Textured Shawl Recipe is a beautiful and simple patten with such a pretty result and I have had it in my queue for ages. I used blackberry dyed yarn that I bought from Camellia Fiber Co. I had the yarn already when I saw how lovely Rebekka's shawl looked on Instagram I knew I wanted one for myself. The color changes in different lights but seems mostly like a creamy white with a tinge of pink. Since it is a merino, alpaca and silk blend it is both strong and soft. I used almost all of two skeins. I plan to block it again as I think it can use it.

apple picking

Apple picking September 21, 2014. Golden Delicious, Macoun, Jonamac and Jonagold. The apple trees were hit by hail a few weeks back at this orchard but, we found some good ones anyway.

playing catch up

The computer was out for over a week! So now it's time to play catch up here but, first I just want to show you this granola which is hands down the best granola I've ever had. It's My New Roots Chunky Chocolate Buckwheat Granola and it's amazing. I made it last week and I agree that's it's more of a snacking then a breakfast granola. I highly recommend making this as soon as you can get your hands on the ingredients and buckwheat (found at Whole Foods) is really healthy for you.

I've spent the morning practicing my calligraphy, it's challenging yet relaxing. I have to remind myself to go slowly.

This beautiful antique hydrangea has been nice to look at while I work.

union suit

A size 1 union suit knit with Spud and Chloe Sweater. I have always wanted to knit one of these! I think it's pretty special and would definitely be the most amazing layering piece for taking a baby outside in. It is gender neutral so that it can be passed down as well. The yarn is 55% wool, 45% organic cotton and superwash which makes it easy to care for. It took some time to knit but, the pattern was very easy to follow and enjoyable.
